                         Valentine’s Gifts?
                      Not what you think…

Valentine greeting card dated 1909.

Hi,

This time, I am making an exception:
I am going to write about my family.

To be more specific -
about the jewels I’ve made
for the four
grown-up women
in my family, for Valentine’s Day:
[Is this day is dedicated only to romantic lovers?...]

I feel blessed and lucky:
-  I’m lucky to have two daughters and two daughters-in-law;
- I’m lucky to be able to give them my hand-made gifts;
- I’m lucky that they love them
  (At least they say so…)

My eldest daughter loves earrings.
She has long curly hair,
so I’ve made her long earrings,
which were selected from my listings at my ETSY shop :

https://www.etsy.com/listing/254897056

My younger daughter DOES NOT like jewelry!
[Is this the result of my bad education???]
The only jewel she wears
is a ring I made her
long a time ago.
So, I made her another ring…
She has a big palm with chubby fingers,
so I’ve made a dramatic piece ,
with a big raw Aqua Marine stone,
held by five “arms” of solid gold:

My elder daughter-in-law
is an elegant lady who adores jewelry.
She asked for a bracelet.
As I am now in my “geometric period”,
I designed a bracelet
which is composed of three attached elements:
A ring, a chain of small pentagons,
and a rectangular bracelet:

Last ( certainly not least), I designed for
my younger daughter-in-law
a long statement pendant
which will fit
her wide long dresses she wears:

If you also want a special design,
I’ll be glad to be challenged!

WHY PINK? WHY RED?

   Valentines

     (no.3)

We all know  that  both colors of  red and pink, are symbols of love,
and that they are connected to
Valentine’s  Day.

Then – what is the difference?    What color to choose?

Well – the two colors differ in meaning: Red color is associated with the physical aspects of love, it refers to passionate love. Pink color is associated with the spiritual aspects of love,
a
n un-conditional and enduring love, what we call
“TLC” – tender, love, care.
And also a self-love,which  is essential
for giving love to others…

In 1983, the artists Christo and Jean-Claude, launched a huge  and ambitious one-of-a-kind installation  (of which only the preparatory drawings and the photos remain): They wrapped the coastlines of  11 uninhabited islands in Biscayne Bay, in Miami with pink woven synthetic fabric. The artists did not explain their choice of pink color, but from the point of view of  pink symbolism, it seems they wrapped  Nature  with tender and caring love…

So,
when we choose our presents to our loved ones, we have to consider the color…

Why Red? (VALENTINES) no.2

Today I am serious!
As my interest and knowledge is Modern Art, I would like to share with you the enormous change of attitude towards colors in general,  and towards red in particular, since the  modern era, around the 19th century,(as Valentine’s Day is approaching).
Jacuques Louis David, Napoleon at the St. Bernard Pass, 1801.
This Neo-Classic painting representsthe classical attitude towards colorsince ancient time:Paint used to be a narrative vehiclein the work of art.Red, being an “extrovert” color, was used to highlight figures of prominent status, such as religious figures, political, military and social figures of high-status.In this painting, Napoleon has a red cloak, functioning as a  halo.
Red  has dual  symbolism: Holiness, courage,energy,  self-sacrifice,daring, passionate love, life, blooming.
Ahmed Taher: Red color theme

 But also –
death, war,  blood, struggle, danger, fire, aggression.
                                             ____   ____   ____

Two major processes paved the way for the amazing change 0f attitude towards color: Art was liberated from the “tyranny”of narrative.(Napoleon’simagewasordered from the painter David.)
Artists no longer depended on patronage,  and were not committed  to express  a specific  agenda. They could freely express their own ideas  and feelings, like exploring paint for instance ...

Colors as physical phenomena and later as perceptual phenomena
(i.e. how we see colors, and the mutual effects of their combinations),
a
nd as a psychologicalphenomena (i.e. the mental effects of colors) .

Mark Rothko, Orange Red Orange, circa 1962.

Mark Rothko, Mauve and Orange, 1961.

                    M.Rothko, Untilled (Red, Orange),1968.

Rothko, the American Abstract-Expressionist,represents here the artists who saw in color itself the  subject of the painting. When we meditate before his “floating”colored rectangulars, we ask  ourselves not what it is all about, but how it is  affecting us, and what mood it expresses.

                                                       ___   ___   ___

But now – back to ground– back to Valentine's Day:

Red color is functioning in Valentive’s Day,in its historical symbolism: passionate love, desire, energy.
Maybe we are also so attracted to red because of this dual meaning. The negative aspects intensifies our sense of  vitality…

Do you find  Modern Art interesting?

                WHY RED?

            (VALENTINES)

                    (no.1)

en.wikipedia.org

The colors of red and pink are related to

Valentine’s Day,  the lovers’ day.

Speaking about red, my intuitive  guess was

that red is the  most popular color

among people all over the world.

As a mother and a grandma,

I know that red is the first color babies identify,

and it is mostly  attractive to them.

But  amongst  adults? -

 Well, I was wrong!

A poll, taken in 2003,

 by Joe Hallock

showed that only

 7% (men) and 9% (women)

preferred red,

while 57% men and 35% women

preferred –surprise: Blue...

en.wikipedia.org

Did it surprise you?

In fact, I  did notice that most of my clothes

are in all kinds of blue variations...

What is your favorite color?

What color is dominant in your closet?
